Claire Filmon (1962, France) is a dancer, improviser, choreographer and teacher based in Paris.

After training in classical dance, in 1988 she became a devotee of Merce Cunningham’s technique. The ‘Cunningham technique’ pushes the boundaries of the human body through a combination of choreography, mathematics and gestures inspired by everyday observations.

In addition to this, Filmon focuses on methods based on in-depth analysis, precision and relaxation of movement, such as the methods of F.M. Alexander, Mosché Feldenkrais, Irmgard Bartenieff and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen.

During her stay in the United States in 1990, she was initiated in the Horton technique by Bella Lewitzky and in Anna Halprin’s approach to improvisation. She went on to complete her training by working with dancers from Trisha Brown’s company.

To develop her personal interpretation of improvisation and real-time composition, she draws on the traditions of the ‘new dance’ and ‘Contact Improvisation’ in particular, building on the work of Simone Forti. Since 1995, she has created and participated in improvisation performances in Europe, the United States, South America and Asia.

Claire Filmon and Jeremiah Day are connected through their respective individual work with Simone Forti. They both teach and share her Logomotion method.
