Darius Dolatyari-Dolatdoust

Darius Dolatyari-Dolatdoust is an artist, performer, choreographer and designer, of a French-German-Polish mother and a French-Persian father. He lives and works between Brussels and Marseille. Since 2021, he has founded his company DDDMM with Maureen Béguin-Morin.
After studying fashion design at the Duperré School, graphic design at the Estienne School in Paris and sculpture at La Cambre, he eventually studied dance, performance and choreography at the Institute of Choreographic Arts – (ISAC) of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.

His approach revolves around the making of costumes, which he in turn sees as a space for transformation and hybridisation, a choreographic score, in its capacity to alter our relationship to the body, to dance and to language. The garment becomes a means of questioning its identity, whether by evoking its Iranian origins, donning costumes inspired by Persian works in the Louvre, or deconstructing our relationship of domination with other species, depicting hybrid beings at the boundary of human and animal.

As a visual artist, textile is his main medium, with which he creates patchworks, paintings, costumes and scenographies. His patchworks are like stories, trying to capture a moment of movement, often between fighting and loving, between violence and love. Bodies merge with each other and take the form of colours in the patchwork. These textile works are also used to set up installations, triggered by site-specific performances.

He designed the costumes and scenography for the creations of Pau Simon (La grande remontée), Liam Warren (Merge), Grégoire Schaller (Ekkrino, Mata, Ordeal by water) and Renaud Dallet (Voir, toucher, s’aimer fort)He has presented his performance work in European institutions such as Wiels – Centre for Contemporary Art (Brussels), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), Mudam Luxembourg – Museum of Modern Art (Luxembourg), Momu – Museum of Fashion Antwerp, M Leuven – Museum of Contemporary Art, Stuk (Leuven), Buda Arts Centre (Kortrijk), Atelier 210 (Brussels), Villa Noailles (Hyères), le 19M (Paris), Centrale Fies (Dro), Spazio K(Prato).
