Omar A. Chowdhury

Omar A. Chowdhury (Bangladesh, 1984) is based in Amsterdam and Dhaka. In 2018 and 2019 he is a resident at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. In 2017 Chowdhury graduated the HISK (Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Ghent) postgraduate course. Recently he had solo presentations at 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art in Sydney, the Bengal Foundation in Dhaka, the MOMENTUM in Berlin and the India Art Fair in Delhi.

His recent film Augustijn had its world premiere this year at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam. Previously Chowdhury has had screenings at Film and Video Umbrella in London, Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, La Gaîté lyrique in Paris, Queensland Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane for the Asia Pacific Triennial 8. Omar A. Chowdhury is the recent recipient of an Ian Potter Cultural Trust Grant, a Bengal Foundation Practice Grant, two Australia Council Grants and an Australian Cinematographer’s Society Gold Award. His exhibitions have been reviewed by The Guardian, Artinfo, Art Australia and other journals and magazines across the world.
