Stop Motion Animations based on Iep!, children’s book by Joke Van Leeuwen

Workshop for children aged between 8 and 12, with animation artist Esther Rosa (i.c.w. Utopia Aalst)

Especially for Club Ritual, there are 2 animation workshops by Rekker in collaboration with Utopia and animation artist Esther Rosa. Workshops for children between 8 and 12 based on the book Iep! in which Esther Roza’s illustrations are brought to dance.

Iep! is about transitional phases, when you float between two roles, and about rituals that facilitate these transitions; a theme the author often plays with. It’s also the theme of NW reopening.

Saturday 23.03.2024 9:30-12:00
At Utopia, room ‘Pupilllen’

Sunday 24.03.2024 11:00-13:00
At Studio Rekker in NW (on the 2nd floor of the warehouses at NW).

Registration is required. Places are limited to 16 participants.

No space left in the workshops? No worries! During Club Ritual, Studio REKKER provides 2 installations that invite young and old to experiment with the basic techniques of animation film. Both installations are free to use. There will be Play Stop Motion stations in Lokaal Dendy and Stop Motion Boxes in Rekker’s studio on the 2nd floor of the warehouses.

Esther Roza is a recent graduate of KASK & Conservatoire at animation. She has a love of art, culture and literature. From an early age, she has been particularly fond of writer Joke van Leeuwen. In her graduation year at art school, she wrote her thesis on Van Leeuwen: an exposition of the theme of liminality in her work. Liminality is about transitional phases, when you are hovering between two roles, and about rituals that facilitate these transitions; a theme that Joke van Leeuwen often (perhaps unconsciously) plays with.
