n Spain, eight-year-old Coco spends the summer holidays among her grandmother and great-aunt Lita and Lourdes’ beehives. Coco struggles with her identity; although she grew up as a boy, she feels this is not her true self. Increasingly, Coco begins to embrace who she really is, while Mama Ane already accepts this to some extent, though it is not discussed openly. Other family members need more time to get used to this change. However, as a family celebration approaches, this time seems to accelerate. Meanwhile, Coco’s quest for self-discovery also forces mother and grandmother to reflect on their own lives, desires and relationships.
